The emptiness, space and sense of sky seem really suited to my work and looking back there's been plenty of occasions I've painted moorland, usually in Scotland, on Skye or the outer Isles.
I love the colours and the film by Andrea Arnold makes great use of the beautiful washes and colour of moorland in mist. I'll have to wait until the end of the coming summer before I'll be able to get these beautiful high purples, when the heather blooms again. The moors round here are washed out, ochres, sepia and earth colours dominate, softened by the cloudy skies.
